Professional Beginnings at Brooklyn Law School

Last fall, we had the opportunity to photograph a group of Brooklyn Law School students as they prepare to step into the professional world. The session was organized by a member of one of the school’s student life organizations, who helped secure sponsorships and school funding to make the experience accessible for everyone. It was such a thoughtful way to support students as they approach the next stage of their careers and we were grateful to play a small part in it.

Why Professional Headshots Matter

For many of these students, this was their first set of professional portraits. A quality headshot can make a big difference when applying for clerkships, internships, and jobs as it’s often the first impression that accompanies a résumé, LinkedIn profile, or firm bio. Beyond that, it’s a way to show personality, confidence, and readiness to step into the professional space. We tailored lighting and posing to create clean, approachable, and timeless images that each student could proudly use in their next chapter.

Capturing Milestones That Matter

While this project may have looked simple, seventy portraits taken over the course of a few hours carried so much significance. In preparation, we planned our lighting setup to ensure consistency across every image, tested backdrop tones that felt both clean and professional, and created an efficient flow so each student felt comfortable and confident in front of the camera. Every detail mattered, from the direction of the light to the pacing between sessions, so each person walked away with a polished headshot that felt true to them.
